Boston, Massachussetts Passenger Lists Index Available

Volunteers are in the process of creating an online index of passengers who arrived in Boston between 1848 and 1891 held by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Archives. Why is this important for Canadian Researchers? Many immigrants arrived in the US, and then crossed the border into Canada. Names of those who had already immigrated to Canada were also included if they used Boston when they returned to Atlantic Canada. Such was the case of one S. Oaksmith who travelled back to Nova Scotia via Boston.

Are you entitled to be an UE?

Descendants of an important group in Canadian History, United Empire Loyalists, are entitled to have UE after their name if they can prove that ancestry. A UE is anyone who is a descendant of the group of people who, "during the American Revolutionary War, sacrificed all to retain their loyalty to the British crown." To find out more, visit the United Empire Loyalists' Association of Canada's website by clicking here.
